Victoria, BC – Today the Capital Regional District launches its updated website and live web streaming of Board and Committee meetings at the Fisgard headquarters boardroom to support the Board’s initiative to increase awareness of the local, sub-regional and regional services delivered by the regional district and as part of the organization’s increased focus on open government.
“The new website provides a clearer view of what the CRD does, how decisions are made and what services are provided,” says CRD Board Chair Alastair Bryson. “This transparent view is aimed at providing residents with a better idea of the scope and multitude of regional issues that affect them.”
Tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 11, CRD Board Directors will elect the Board Chair for 2014. Together with the Directors, the Board Chair will: oversee the organization’s strategic vision for the improvement and good governance of the regional district, ensure good communication, liaise with other levels of government and organizations, and provide direction to the CRD’s Officers and employees to enable the management of regional district business and functions. The first opportunity to view the live web streaming capability, which can be seen here, will be during tomorrow’s meeting at 1:30pm. The live web streaming will allow residents to view Board and Committee meetings online and be informed of regional matters at hand. A video picture will be displayed during the meeting and archived meetings will be posted and stored on the site.
"Sharing timely and relevant information with the public is critical to fulfilling the CRD’s corporate commitment to continue to excel as an effective, efficient and accessible organization. The Board and organization recognize the need to provide more clarity about the 200+ services, $350 million operating budget and projects the CRD is responsible for delivering," says Chief Administrative Officer Robert Lapham.
