Local arts organizations receive $118,000 through Project Grants

Mar 29, 2021

Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional District (CRD) Arts Commission has approved funding for 14 local not-for-profit arts organizations through the Arts & Culture Support Service. A total of $118,450 will provide support to produce or present events or programming over the next year.

“Given the evolving challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, planning arts programming right now takes equal parts creativity, tenacity and foresight,” says CRD Arts Commission Chair Jeremy Loveday. “These organizations have stepped up to the plate, developing programming that not only brings the region together in celebration of the arts, but also provides necessary safety protocols and contingency plans.”

This year’s recipients are offering both in-person and virtual events and programming throughout the year, ranging from a two-day sound art, experimental musical and performance art festival (Cabaret Voltaire Societe & Diversions) to the 22nd annual Victoria BC Ska and Reggae Festival. While fewer project grants were awarded than in recent years, the Arts Commission funded two new recipients: Cabaret Voltaire Societe & Diversions and the Victoria Arion Male Voice Choir. View the full list of recipients below and read about the funded projects.

The next deadline for Project Grant applications is Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 4:30 pm.

The approved grants meet the CRD’s mandate to support, promote and celebrate arts and culture. The CRD Arts & Culture Support Service is supported by Saanich, Victoria, Oak Bay, Esquimalt, View Royal, Highlands, Metchosin, Sooke and Southern Gulf Islands.
