CRD Invites Input on Integrated Solid Waste and Resource Management Plan

Jun 27, 2012

Victoria, BC - The Capital Regional District (CRD) is inviting input on its Integrated Solid Waste and Resource Management Plan. The CRD's Solid Waste Management Plan, adopted in 1989, has undergone two revisions and the CRD is currently developing Revision 3 of the Plan. Through the revision process, the CRD will evaluate existing programs and policies, identify needs and opportunities and make recommendations on outstanding solid waste management issues such as alternate programs, strategies and supplemental actions to strategies.

To help inform this process, the CRD is conducting an online questionnaire which will provide residents and stakeholders with an opportunity to express their feedback and ideas on how to look after recycling, composting and garbage in our region. Input received will help design the future of handling garbage in our region.

Available through the CRD website, the questionnaire aims to identify resident’s and stakeholder’s awareness and use of CRD disposal services, their needs and expectations, as well as more specific preferences regarding waste management. The questionnaire is one of several opportunities that will be extended to the public to offer feedback. The goal of this information collection strategy is to derive a more balanced understanding of needs, expectations and desired outcomes for the region.

Input will be accepted from June 27 to July 15, 2012 at midnight. The plan will ultimately serve as the basis for finalizing a strategic implementation and operational plan for the next five year period.
