The Capital Regional District Invites Core Area Residents to Wastewater Open Houses

Feb 05, 2010

Victoria, BC – The Capital Regional District (CRD) is holding two public open houses to provide information on the issue of wastewater treatment procurement. Procurement decisions will determine whether wastewater facilities are designed built, financed operated and maintained by the public or private sector. CRD Staff and Consultants will be present at the open houses to answer questions, share ideas on the procurement models under consideration and receive comments.

The following open houses are taking place:

Wednesday, February 10, 3 – 8 pm
Burnaby Room, Ambrosia Catering and Event Centre, 638 Fisgard Street

Thursday, February 11, 3 – 8 pm
Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2121 Cedar Hill Cross Road

In 2006 the CRD began planning to upgrade its wastewater treatment at the request of the Minister of Environment for British Columbia. The core area affected includes the municipalities of Colwood, Esquimalt, Langford, Oak Bay, Saanich, Victoria and View Royal. On December 14, 2009, the CRD submitted an amendment to the existing Liquid Waste Management Plan to the Minister of Environment. Planning and construction of this wastewater treatment system is expected to take 10 years to complete. The new wastewater treatment plan must take into account population and infrastructure growth up to 2065.
