Permits, Pre-Approvals and Appointments

Landfilling of certain types of waste can have health and safety concerns for staff, create nuisance, or have environmental concerns. These wastes may require special handling, testing, permits, pre-approvals or appointments before being brought to Hartland.

Renovation and Demolition Waste

Before starting renovation or demolition work, review which materials require testing, which materials are not accepted and which materials require pre-approvals, permits or appointments.

Asbestos Waste

Asbestos containing materials (ACM) are accepted. Test results and appointments are required and loads must follow specified packaging and disposal requirements.

Controlled Waste

Controlled wastes require special handling and are disposed of in designated trenches and covered daily to minimize nuisance, odours, and scavenging by birds. Controlled waste requires a permit for disposal.

2024 Hartland Landfill Policy Changes and Bylaw Updates

New material bans, adjustments to the tipping fee structure and increased bylaw fines could divert up to 40,500 tonnes of waste a year, contributing to reducing the region’s waste by more than one-third. Read the media release or factsheet for more details.
