Description
Work is completed and the new playground at Greenglade Community Centre has opened.
Funding was provided in the 2023 Capital Plan for Panorama Recreation.
SwingTime Parks & Playgrounds was the successful proponent of the request for proposal for the new play structure, with a project cost of $320,000. The project included removal and disposal of previous deteriorating structure, excavation and site prep, supply and install of surfacing, installation of equipment and new drainage.
The deteriorating playground at Greenglade Community Centre was replaced with a structure that meets CSA standards, accessible, inclusive to children of all abilities, and enjoyed by both facilities users and the neighbouring community. After consultation with participants in licensed childcare and accessibility stakeholders in the community, the playground design includes ramp access onto the main structure suitable for those in a wheelchair or with mobility challenges, as well as some rubber surfacing to allow barrier free access to two large components of the playground design.
New features include:
- Installation of new drainage.
- Pour-in-place rubber to allow barrier free access to two large components of the playground (U-Swing and Ocean Wave).
- Engineered wood fibre playground surfacing.
- Ramp access to lower playground deck with music panels and bouncing buddy bus for endless cooperative group play.
- Blue Imp Rootz main structure inspiring nature-themed play with ample opportunities for imagination, role play and social interaction.
- Tunnel slide, open slide and two sets of monkey bars for various heights and abilities.
