Description

The Galloping Goose Regional Trail is an important component of the regional trail network, and the Capital Regional District is committed to ensuring it remains in good condition and is safe for the community.

To that end, the CRD will replace two aging pedestrian bridges that span Bilston Creek on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail between Luxton Road and Winter Road in Langford, beginning in early August 2023. The replacements are anticipated to be completed by late fall 2023.

An environmental management plan, monitoring and approvals are in place for this project and work will be completed during the fish window - one of many measures used to protect fish and fish habitat when carrying out a project near water.

    Regional Trail Traffic

The section of the Galloping Goose between Luxton and Winter roads will be closed during the replacement project. A Traffic Management Plan has been established to ensure a detour route is provided for pedestrian and bike traffic along Happy Valley Road.

The CRD aims to provide a AAA facility detour route where logistically possible, however due to the rural nature of this area, a detour via Happy Valley Road is the most direct route. Traffic signage and barricades will be erected to inform vehicle traffic of the detour and to help protect cyclists and pedestrians.
