What would you like to Recycle?

Glass (pane)

window glass, sheet glass, greenhouse glass
Glass (pane)

Not all glass has the same chemical composition, this is why it is important to separate glass before recycling.

Glass jars that were purchased with food in them can be rinsed and put out with your curbside recycling in a separate bin. Please see Blue Box Program for more information. Refundable glass beverage bottles should be returned for the refund. See Beverage Containers (refundable) for a list of locations.

If you have recently upgraded your windows and the old ones are still in good condition, consider taking them to a store that re-uses building materials. See Unbroken Windows.

If your glass is part of an aluminum framed window, it needs to be recycled as Metal. If your glass has a wood casing or other materials attached, it will not be recyclable. See Garbage for disposal options.

Still on this page because your glass hasn’t been described yet? Contact one of the facilities listed below for recycling options.

How do I go green?

Consider making and installing storm windows for your single paned house windows instead of replacing them all with double paned glass. Purchase furniture made of sustainably harvested wood rather than glass.

Use the glass from your old coffee table to make a cold frame for vegetable gardens.

Contact facilities directly regarding restrictions and charges.

Glass takes an eternity to biodegrade in a landfill. Made of silica heated to high temperatures, it has been made by humans for a millennium.
