Designated recycling facilities can safely depressurize your old tank. They will then remove the valve and recycle the tank and valve with other metals.

How do I go green?

Keep your propane tank out of the elements, to prevent it from rusting or beginning to leak. Turn off your portable cook stove and remove the tank when not in use so you don’t waste propane.

Unfortunately, after its refillable life is over, you can’t reuse a propane tank safely at home, so please take it to a depot. Old tanks are a safety risk for yourself and others if left lying around.

    Do not throw old tanks in the garbage, they’re a safety risk. A tank that has not been properly depressurized can explode if punctured or cause a fire if it leaks. Bring them to a facility where they can be recycled safely.
