Communities in the Capital Region are set amongst a patchwork of natural and developed areas at risk of wildfire. Homeowners can take simple actions to create a FireSmart property, dramatically increasing the resistance of your home and property to wildfire damage.

To learn more:

The CRD supports communities in Juan de Fuca, Southern Gulf Islands, and Salt Spring Island Electoral Areas to reduce wildfire risk. For information on other communities, visit your local fire department or emergency program

Electoral Area Staff, Emergency Programs, and Fire Departments host regular:

  • Community wood chipping events
  • Free home inspections from a Local FireSmart Representative
  • Public information sessions

For more information on scheduled events in your community, see the event listing in the right sidebar and stay tuned to social media.
