Christmas Light Strings

Christmas Light Strings
Christmas light strings are managed through the province-wide LightRecycle product stewardship program. A full list of what is accepted and free depot locations is available on their website.
Strings with light bulbs removed are also accepted for recycling as scrap metal at metal recycling facilities.

How do I go green?

Replace light strings only when no longer in working order and replace bulbs instead of going for a new look.

Donate strings that still work or offer them for free online through social media or an online classifieds service.

Not all facilities listed below are part of the provincial program and may charge a fee for drop off. Contact facilities directly regarding restrictions and charges.

  • The Environmental Story

Light strings make those festive times magical but the relative low cost means this cabling of pvc and copper wire is all too often dumped for a new look. Like drink yokes, these sturdy strings can harm scavenging wildlife who get tangled up in search of food.
