Michigan Square was formerly a 62-unit housing development owned by the Capital Region Housing Corporation since 1985. Redevelopment of this property included replacing the 3 buildings fronting Michigan Street with two new 4-storey apartment buildings containing 97 new affordable rental housing units in addition to the retention of a 9-unit heritage home.
As part of the RHFP, the Michigan Square project includes 15 units at provincial income assistance rates as part of the 53-unit Building A and nine units at provincial income assistance rates as part of the 44-unit Building B. The unit mix offered will include studio, 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units. The Regional Housing Trust Fund Contribution is $1,095,000 for both buildings. Construction has now started and occupancy is anticipated in Q4 of 2023.
