Overview

Opened in 1978 to primarily serve residents of Sidney, North Saanich, Central Saanich and Saanich, the role and scope of this community hospital has changed as it continues to serve an increasing number of patients from throughout the Capital Region. The Saanich Peninsula Hospital Operating Room and Central Supply Reprocessing Redevelopment project (OR/CSR) was part of a new vision for the Saanich Peninsula Hospital to integrate this community hospital with the South Island Hospital Network and to bring the operating rooms into compliance with national standards.

The redevelopment project included a 690m2 addition to accommodate a third operating room and an integrated procedures room to accommodate endoscopy services and other minor procedures.  Also included in the project was an electrical upgrade adding a second transformer and additional generators to accommodate the power needs of the renovated OR/CSR.

Project Cost

The $9.9 million project opened in August 2012 through the capital funding support of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation ($5.2 million), Island Health Authority ($2.9 million) and the Capital Regional Hospital District ($1.8 million).
