Vancouver Island Green Business Certification

vigbc-logoThe Capital Regional District (CRD) is fostering the green economy on Vancouver Island by supporting the Vancouver Island Green Business Certification (VIGBC) program.

The program is a unique way to recognize and award the efforts of small and medium sized businesses that are taking action to reduce waste, paper usage, water and energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and furthering social responsibility in the community.

For businesses, the certification is a guide to greening your operations and educating staff. For consumers, it is a symbol that lets you know which businesses have green practices and shop sustainably with confidence.

If you are an owner or manager of a small or medium sized business in the capital region (under 100 Full-Time Employees), the certification provides businesses with:

  • A checklist of sustainable actions in the workplace;
  • Grades of business performance: Silver, Gold and Green (Green being the highest level);
  • Assistance with online and in-house marketing materials and promotion; and
  • Tools and tips for greening your operations.

As a part of the program a third party VIGBC verifier will complete a walk through site assessment to confirm the actions you have in place and identify additional opportunities to improve your certification rating while connecting you with energy and cost saving opportunities.
