Salmon-Safe Eco-Certification
Explore Salmon-Safe BC, an eco-certification program hosted by the Fraser Basin Council that takes a holistic approach to land and water management by focusing on salmon as key indicators of ecosystem health.
Salmon-Safe recognizes responsible, eco-friendly practices that protect Pacific salmon habitat and enhance water quality on agricultural and urban lands. The Salmon-Safe standards serve as a guide for site developers, designers, contractors and land managers interested in demonstrating environmental leadership by reducing watershed impacts from site development and operation. The standards can be applied to agricultural sites, urban sites, and parks and natural areas.
In this session, Erin Weckworth, Regional Manager, Greater Vancouver - Sea-to-Sky at the Fraser Basin Council, will provide an overview of the Salmon-Safe BC program, certification process, and provide a case study of Vancouver Island's first certified site, BC Transit's HandyDART site in View Royal. Katie Hamilton, Tavola Strategy Group and Cori Barraclough, Aqua-Tex Scientific Consulting will share their experience working on BC Transit’s HandyDART site.
Check in at Reception of CRD Headquarters (625 Fisgard St.). Parking is available at the Centennial Square Parkade.
