East Sooke Regional Park (East Sooke)
Have you ever seen turkey vultures kettling? Join CRD Regional Parks and guests for this annual migration event!
Meeting Location: Meet at the information kiosk at the Aylard Farm parking lot.
Trail Description to Main Event: 600m to picnic shelter and back to parking lot. Smooth gravel surface trail with some gradual incline. Accessible washrooms at both ends of the trail. Wheelchair and stroller friendly.
Birding event at Beechey Head: approximately 2km walk; compact gravel surface as well as soil surface with roots and rocks; moderate to steep incline. Not wheelchair or stroller friendly.
Main Event at the Picnic Shelter
- StoryWalk™ by Vancouver Island Regional Library from Aylard Farm parking lot to the picnic shelter.
- The Raptors from Duncan will have live raptors and offer a closer look at these amazing birds.
- CRD Regional Parks naturalists, Victoria Natural History Society, and Rocky Point Bird Observatory will have displays and activities.
Birding at Beechey Head Viewpoint
- 10am (guided walk before main event) - Birding expert Geoffrey Newell will lead a guided walk up to Beechey Head. Meet at the information kiosk at Aylard Farm parking lot. The hike takes roughly 30 minutes, requires sturdy footwear and is not wheelchair accessible. Bring binoculars, water and food.
- 11am-2pm - Geoffrey and a CRD Regional Parks naturalist will stay at the viewpoint above Beechey Head to chat with event-goers who want to hike up on their own time.
Please note: We like pets too. However, their presence can be disruptive for some folks. If you plan to attend one of our programs, please leave pets at home. Guide and service animals are, of course, welcome.
