Juan de Fuca Retail Water Rate 2010
Effective Jan 1, 2010, the Retail Water Rate for customers living in the West Shore Communities of Colwood, Langford, Metchosin, View Royal, Sooke, East Sooke and the Highlands is $1.4985 per cubic metre (One cubic metre is 1,000 litres or 220 imperial gallons).
Retail Water Rate
The Retail Water Rate in the West Shore Communities is determined by adding the Wholesale Water Rate component and the Juan de Fuca Distribution Water Rate component. The changes from 2009 to 2010 are listed in the table below.
The change in Juan de Fuca Retail Water Rate will result in the average user paying an additional $3.82 per bi-monthly billing period.

Reasons for Retail Rate Increase
The increase to the Juan de Fuca Retail Water Rate includes increased cost of water purchased from the Regional Water Supply System (wholesale water), ongoing investment in replacing aging water mains and general increases in costs of energy, labour, and materials.
When compared to other utilities, drinking water from the tap is very inexpensive
(10 litres of drinking water costs only $0.015).

Charges in Arrears
Water consumption charges or service charges due and payable on December 31 and unpaid at that date shall be added to property taxes and collected as Taxes In Arrears. (Except properties exempt from assessment for taxation). An administration fee of $40 shall be levied and added to the property taxes.
