Bowker Relief Sewer Project (Completed 2006)

Infrastructure Upgrading

During rain storms, flow in sections of the sewer exceeded the pipe's capacity, which resulted in overflows to Bowker Creek and Oak Bay Beach. The CRD resolved this problem by constructing a new "relief" sewer to replace the structurally defective sections of the existing sewer and to increase overall system capacity. These upgrades were necessary to prevent wastewater overflows and to protect human health and the environment.

Bowker Creek Greenway

A greenway encourages habitat for wildlife and recreational opportunities for residents.

The construction of the Bowker relief sewer provided an opportunity to construct a segment of the former Bowker Creek Greenway through the former Richmond Elementary School property connecting the City of Victoria to Saanich. The end result was a multi-use path that gently meanders alongside Bowker Creek.

The Bowker Relief Sewer will help protect public health and the environment by preventing wastewater overflows.
