Kitchen Scraps Recycling for Businesses
It's time to put on your thinking cap.
As resources and landfill space become more scarce, the CRD is moving away from the landfilling of kitchen scraps for businesses, treating this material as a valuable resource instead of waste. Organic materials such as food scraps and soiled paper products constitute approximately 30% of the waste stream at Hartland landfill.
In order to meet our waste diversion goals, we're planning a recycling initiative for kitchen scraps produced by businesses. The CRD wants to work with businesses to plan an initiative that fits.
Stakeholder consultation
Stakeholder consultation took place from October 3, 2011 - November 30, 2011. Results were submitted to the CRD Board in March of 2012.
