Harbours Environmental Management Strategy

The VEHEAP partners worked together to develop an environmental management strategy for the harbours that establishes a basis for more coordinated and effective harbour environmental management activities and establishes a framework through which the environmental quality of the harbours can be protected and improved. The strategy:

  • identifies important environmental issues in the harbours that need to be addressed
  • defines activities needed to sustain and improve the environmental quality of the harbours
  • outlines actions that are necessary to improve the environmental quality of the harbours
  • seeks to coordinate the actions of federal, provincial, regional, and municipal agencies, decision makers, and other groups interested in improving the environmental quality of the harbours.

VEHEAP's EMS was signed by all member agencies in 2000, thereby renewing their commitment to work together.
