What's New with Salt Spring Island Parks and Recreation

COVID-19 Update

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, PARC has followed the guidelines and orders set out by the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) and other governing bodies, including WorkSafeBC, Island Health, British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA), and the Lifesaving Society.

Following the order of the PHO, proof of vaccination is NOT required to participate in aquatic activities or to attend the Rainbow Road Aquatic Centre.

Beginning September 13, 2021 all people 12 years and older will be required to show proof of vaccination through the BC Vaccine Card and government-issued photo ID (ID only required if 19 years and older) prior to participating in indoor fitness classes.Youth aged 12 to 18 are not required to show identification, only their vaccine card. If you do not wish to attend during this proof of vaccination period, we are happy to provide you with an account credit or refund for your registration fee. Please email reception to process this request.

Additionally, patrons must wear a mask in common and public areas (including hallways, washrooms and change rooms) when not engaged in physical activity. This mask requirement applies to those 12 years and older, regardless of vaccination status.

BC residents will be able to download or request a proof of vaccine card online ahead of September 13. For more details, visit Proof of vaccination - Province of British Columbia. According to PHO we must ensure those entering our facilities have received at least the first dose of the COVID vaccine, and that as of October 24th, 2021 have received the second dose at least 7 days prior.

Be sure to plan ahead and bring proof of vaccination when required, government-issued photo ID if 19 years and older, a mask, and allow extra time for you visit to accommodate these changes.

Please continue to follow the health guidelines of practicing careful social contact, washing your hands often with soap and water or using hand sanitizer, and staying home if feeling unwell or having any symptoms of illness.

Thank you for your cooperation as we keep working together to be safe.
