The purpose of this design is to create a magic forest that draws attention to the activities in the studios and inspires visitors to explore their own creativity. The work adds a delightful touch of nature and colour to the hallway area and makes the studios even more inviting and memorable to the viewers.

“I included 22 birds of assorted species, one rabbit, one raccoon, one squirrel, two butterflies and two frogs. There are Garry Oak, Cedars and Fir trees. Young children waiting for a class to begin may have great fun trying to locate the different animals"- Rick Silas

Rick is a local glass artist who has 25 years of experience, and many projects installed throughout Canada and the US. Rick has extensive experience working with glass as an art medium and enjoys teaching his glass art techniques.

Rick experiments with contemporary mediums such as reclaimed tempered glass, resins, spray paints and assorted plastic films. Over the last three decades he has developed many new techniques using a combination of these materials.

With these resources he has developed new artistic mediums in 3-dimentional fine art painting, sculpture and functional works. Silas was featured on The Discovery Channel creating a sculpture using his patented formula for bending glass without heat.

Due to the high demand of the flat "shattered" glass material he opened a production studio that sells the material on a per square foot basis. The material has been very popular for countertops, backsplashes, tables, and walls, etc.
