How do I go green?

Reduce

Consider buying soil in bulk to avoid all that plastic wrapping that soil often comes in. Many companies will deliver loads of top soil, sea soil or garden soil for a small price, saving you the trip and the plastic.

Reuse

You don’t have to start with new soil every year when you begin potting plants and gardening. Try to reuse some of the older soil by mixing it with a smaller amount of new soil.  Mix in some of your compost for an even richer growing medium.

Recycle

Take your old soil to one of the depots below where they can recycle it.

  • The Environmental Story

Soil on its own does not pose a great threat to the environment in terms of pollution, but the transportation of soil can. It occupies a great deal of room and most public works yard do not accept it. Some private facilities do take it but it will still require a fossil fuel burning vehicle to move it.
