Power Equipment (outdoor)

Outdoor power equipment is managed through the province-wide Outdoor Power Equipment Institute of Canada (OPEIC) product stewardship program.  It is a non-profit program funded by a recycling fee applied to new electrical products brought into BC by outdoor power equipment manufacturers, distributors and retailers. The fee was introduced July 2012.

How do I go green?

Do you really need the latest and greatest? If you must purchase new, consider buying the most durable tools you can afford so you won’t have to replace them any time soon. Look for energy efficient or better yet, manually operated tools. If you only need a tool once in a season, consider renting or borrowing options.

Donate items that still work to a charity, community group, school or church (keeping in mind that these groups can’t use items that need to be repaired) or offer it for free online through social media or an online classifieds service. Consider repairing items whenever possible instead of purchasing new ones.

Not all facilities listed below are part of the provincial program and may charge a fee for drop off. Contact facilities directly regarding restrictions and charges.
