How do I go green?

The best way to reduce your paper use is by refusing it. Post a ‘no junk mail’ sign on your mailbox. Switch to receiving your bills and papers online. Use reusable lunch bags. Utilize a chalkboard or white board for leaving notes.

Save the comics for wrapping paper. Save wrapping paper for a second or third use. Use newspaper to line your kitchen scraps bin. Shredded newsprint makes an excellent garden mulch or litter box liner.

The best way to deal with shredded paper is to place it in a paper bag or paper box.

Not all facilities listed below are part of the provincial program and may charge a fee for drop off. Contact facilities directly regarding size limits and charges.

  • The Environmental Story

Check for the Forest Stewardship Council mark or the Canadian EcoLogo mark, both of which indicate the paper has met environmental standards for recycled content. Other symbols indicate chlorine free bleaching processes and low acidity, which allow the paper to last longer.

    Did You Know?

Unfortunately photographs cannot be recycled because of the chemical coatings on the paper. If they do not have vintage, antique or collectible re-sale value, they should be placed in the garbage.
