Hot Water Tanks
Most standard hot water tanks can be recycled with other large household appliances at any metal recycling facility.

How do I go green?

Turning down the standby temperature on your tank by a few degrees will lengthen its life. Try to reduce the amount of work your tank does by taking a short shower, a small bath and by installing a low-flow shower head. You can also wrap your tank in additional insulation.

There aren’t many uses for an old hot water tank; they are banned from disposal as garbage, so you must bring it in to be recycled as scrap metal.

Contact facilities directly regarding restrictions and charges.
