Animal Cruelty

The BCSPCA enforces the Provincial Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

To report a case of animal cruelty, neglect or abuse, please call the BCSPCA's Cruelty Hotline: 1.855.622.7722.

Wildlife

CRD Bylaw & Animal Care Services enforce the Animal Regulation and Impounding Bylaw for each Municipality we cover. These bylaws do not provide regulations regarding Wildlife or conflicts with Wildlife.

To report a conflict with Wildlife contact BC Conservation at 1.877.952.7277.

To report injured Wildlife contact BCSPCA Wild Arc at 250.478.9453.

Raccoons

CRD Animal Control and BC Conservation Officers do not respond to calls regarding Raccoons. If you have a conflict with Raccoons and require assistance please contact a Pest Control company or contact BC Conservation for a list of trappers.

Marine Mammals

To report issues and conflicts with Marine Mammals please contact the Department of Fisheries and Oceans at 1.800.465.4336.

Bats

If you find a deceased Bat, DO NOT touch it with your hands, use gloves or a tool to remove it. Found Bats should be reported to the Victoria BCCDC at 1.866.665.6626.

Deceased Animals

If you find a deceased Wild Animal on your own private property you are responsible for disposing of it (Central Saanich, North Saanich, Sidney residents contact CRD for assistance). You can bury it, or if it is a small animal (bird, rodent, etc.) you can dispose of it in your household garbage. Wear gloves and double bag the carcass. Do not dispose of raccoons or deer (or similar) in your household garbage, please contact CRD Landfill 250.727.3331 for disposal information.
