Description

As a result of a detailed condition assessment undertaken in 2021, the CRD has initiated a plan for repairs to the Selkirk Trestle beginning with preliminary investigation of, and repairs to, trestle pilings and support structures. This work will inform future, phased repair and upgrade work on the trestle through 2025.

The goal of this project is to ensure the trestle remains in good condition and to ensure the trestle’s longevity as part of the CRD regional trail network.

Project Schedule

Pre-Construction Phase:

  • Starting in mid-February 2023, CRD contractors carried out initial, pre-construction work, including inspection, repairs, and deck maintenance work on the trestle.
  • A section of the trestle will be lifted in early April for routine maintenance.

An environmental management plan, monitoring and approvals are in place for the pre-construction work (including DFO approval), and a cultural heritage review has been conducted for the project.

The trestle will remain open to the public during the pre-construction work, with only temporary closures anticipated. Any impacts to travel along the route during this project will be communicated through the CRD Alerts & Notices page.

Phase 1:

  • Phase 1 of the project is currently estimated to take place between fall 2023 and spring 2024 pending funding.
  • This work will focus on additional below-deck piling repair and maintenance work.

Phase 2:

  • Phase 2 of the project is currently estimated to run from late 2024 and into 2025 pending funding.
  • This work will focus on decking and support structure work.
