Now that construction has begun, the public engagement that took place last winter/spring is moving into the next phase. Project staff will continue to work with the Quadra Village Community Centre through working groups to further develop the ideas presented around the exterior common spaces. If you are interested in participating in a working group, please contact Kelly Greenwell, the QV Community Centre Executive Director.
Before the construction kicked off in June 2016, The Summit Design Team worked alongside community members, neighbours, residents and their families, and healthcare to ensure that all voices were heard before the initial design was created.
The team took part in three workshops, an open house, and meetings with the Quadra Village Community Centre to design a building and exterior common spaces that suit the needs of the residents of The Summit, their neighbours and the community as a whole.
The engagement process began in December 2015, and the first design workshop was on December 12th. The event brought immediate neighbours of the property together to share opinions on design and other property features with the project design team. The team used the information gathered in the workshop to create a schematic design that was presented at the workshop on February 27th.
A summary and the full engagement report from the first round of engagement in December and January are available.
A second design workshop took place on Saturday, February 27th and welcomed over fifty people from family members of seniors in care to neighbours and other community members. Together with the project architects, attendees learned more about the project and participated in a workshop that mapped out their preferences for the future of the common space on The Summit property. The PowerPoint presentations are available online:
A summary and the full report of the second round of online engagement are available.
On May 14th, a third and final workshop took place, as well as an open house. The Summit Design team gathered with the community once more to delve deeper into how the exterior common spaces could be built to benefit residents, neighbours and the community as a whole. The team also shared the final design for the residence with attendees from across the Capital Region.
The Summit team spoke with the community at our Quadra Village Day booth on May 7th, 2016, to share the building plans and spread the word about our final Design Workshop the following weekend.
On June 6th, The Summit team attended the Hillside-Quadra Neighbourhood Action Committee meeting. The team presented the final design plans to the Committee and community members in attendance and answered any additional questions about the project.
The next phase of the project was kicked off with a Ground Breaking Event on Thursday, June 23rd, 2016 at the 955 Hillside construction site. The project team, along with Capital Regional Hospital District and Island Health, joined community members to celebrate the initial ground breaking. Images from the event can be found on Construction Updates.
Thank you to everyone who took part in our community engagement process.
