Description

The ECI and NWT sewers are large diameter pipelines that convey wastewater towards the new McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant. Nearing 50 years old, the concrete pipelines were cleaned and inspected two years ago and found to be extensively corroded. A new fiberglass liner will be installed inside of the existing pipe to renew these sewers and prevent them from further corrosion.

Pedre Underground Utilities was selected to install the liners through a competitive selection process. Installation of the East Coast Interceptor lining on Beach Drive in Oak Bay will commence and should be complete in August. Installation of the Northwest Trunk Sewer Lining along the Galloping Goose Trail (between Burnside and Gorge Road) will commence in September and should be completed by mid October, 2020.

The liner installation is a “trenchless technology” but wastewater will have to be temporarily pumped around the pipes that are to be lined, and some large trucks are required to set up at various manholes for inserting the new liner into the existing pipe. Notices will be posted/delivered to the immediate area and Traffic Control Plans have been prepared to direct vehicles and cyclists around the work zones. Some noise, odours and delays can be expected during the execution of the work. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete this essential rehabilitation work.
