The Salt Spring Island Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC) has adopted a 20 year Master Plan to prioritize infrastructure investments for Centennial Park. With site assessments and central drainage complete planning can begin to replace the playground.
The most recent addition to the public playground was installed in 1995 with some components dating back to 1967 when the park opened. The slide recently had to be removed and the remaining playground components are at or near the end of their useful life and are not accessible for all users. The iconic rocking horse will be serviced and included in the new playground design for future generations to enjoy.
PARC is interested in receiving input on the playground design from parents, children, park users and other community members. Several consultation activities, including kid-friendly events, are planned over the next few months.
This much needed replacement project was made possible thanks in part to a $100,000 donation from the Salt Spring Island Lions Club.
