2.665 Water - Sticks Allison - SGI (Galiano)

The Sticks Allison Water System provides drinking water to 34 lots in the Sticks Allison subdivision on the north side of Galiano Island. The system obtains drinking water from a deep well located 75m east of Galiano Way Rd and 400m south of Sticks Allison Rd. The well water is disinfected at the well-head using ultraviolet light and free chlorine.

In 1968, the Sticks Allison subdivision was created and a private water utility was put in place. In 1997, the CRD Board was requested, by petition from the property owners, to establish a water supply system covering the Sticks Allison subdivision area on Galiano Island. In 1998, the board adopted Bylaw No 2556 which established a service to operate the supply, treatment, conveyance, storage and distribution of water, called the Sticks Allison Water Supply Local Service Establishment Bylaw No 1, 1997. The private water utility was acquired by the CRD and the service continues to be authorized and administered under Bylaw No 2556.

A Commission, made up of local residents and property owners, and the SGI Electoral Area Director, provides community input for the delivery of water service. This service is managed and operated by the CRD Integrated Water Services Department.

The budget for this service is established through an annual CRD Financial Planning process and is funded by connection charges and then through annual parcel taxes and water user charges levied in the local service area.
