The Regional Water Supply Commission has approved awarding a Design-Build Contract (RFP-2015-975) for the Japan Gulch Drinking Water Disinfection Facility Upgrade to Tritech Group Ltd.
Through a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) Process, the CRD selected a Preferred Proponent, Tritech Group, to undertake Design-Build work. Tritech has teamed up with Stantec as the design engineers and together the consortium will utilize their expertise to complete the design and construction of the water treatment facility upgrade. This project will replace aging water disinfection infrastructure, upgrade the Regional Water Supply System treatment process, and improve safety for the public and CRD operations staff.
The Design-Build contract amount is $6,430,971 which is within the approved budget for the project.
The Japan Gulch Drinking Water Disinfection Facility is critical in providing clean, safe, high-quality drinking water to the residents of Greater Victoria. The facility treats and disinfects water through a combination of ultraviolet disinfection and the addition of chlorine and ammonia. The existing chlorine and ammonia gas treatment systems have reached the end of their service life, and the gas systems do pose a higher level health and safety risk. Therefore, the CRD assessed alternative treatment options and the Commission decided to proceed with replacing the gas systems with a bulk liquid chlorine and ammonia treatment system.
Construction is scheduled to start in the summer of 2016 with final commissioning of the work estimated by late summer 2018.
