Core Area Wastewater Discharge Notice
Victoria, BC–- Advisory signage has been posted at beach access points in the Clover Point, Ross Bay, Cadboro Bay, Humber and Rutland Road areas as a precautionary measure due to wastewater discharge bypasses on the evening of Saturday, October 10, 2015. Approximately 3400 m3 of unscreened wastewater was discharged through the Clover Point pump station short outfall as a result of heavy rainfall. In addition, smaller 200 to 300 m3 overflows at Humber and Rutland pump stations in Oak Bay resulted from the rainfall.
In consultation with Island Health, water sampling at locations along the beaches near Clover Point and Cadboro Bay will take place this weekend. Lab results from the weekend samples should be available early next week, and if enterococci levels are below the 70CFU/100mL recreational limit, the signage will be removed.
