Green 365 in the Kitchen Campaign Launches

Feb 04, 2014

Victoria, BC– Today the Capital Regional District launched a new outreach campaign in support of “Green 365”, a multi-themed campaign promoting year-round sustainable living both inside and outside the home.

“Green 365 In The Kitchen” will run from February 4 until March 31, promoting green behaviours that apply in the kitchen, including composting kitchen scraps, keeping fats, oils and grease out of the drains, cooking with local ingredients, using energy and water saving settings on dishwashers and creating environmentally-friendly kitchen cleaners.

“We wanted to provide residents with a tool that will help them go green in their kitchens”, said Nils Jensen, chair of the CRD’s Environmental Services Committee. “Green 365 will be an excellent resource to help contribute to environmental stewardship.”

“Green 365 in the Kitchen,” will offer residents tips to help make their kitchens more environmentally friendly. Search #Green365 on Twitter or visit for weekly tips and to find out where to visit the CRD outreach team to get a complimentary tea towel. As well, the CRD has partnered with The Apple Box for a weekly tips contest running the length of the campaign. Residents can share their best green kitchen tips and be entered to win one of the weekly draws for a box of organic and locally sourced meals from The Apple Box and be entered for a chance to win a grand prize ($400 gift certificate to a local grocery store). Following the kitchen theme into the cooking realm, on February 22 a kitchen party will be hosted at The London Chef. Participants will prepare, cook and enjoy an exquisite meal with assistance from Chef Dan Hayes, while learning how to apply tips on making their kitchen’s green. Registration for the kitchen party is required and on a first come, first serve basis. To register and find out more about the tips contest, visit

“Green 365 in the Kitchen” is proudly supported by: CFAX 1070, KOOL FM, The Apple Box, The London Chef and The Times Colonist.
