Victoria, BC - The Capital Regional District, in collaboration with the Southern Gulf Islands Economic Development Commission, is holding community meetings for preparing a cycling and pedestrian trail plan.
“This trail plan will be developed over many years,” said CRD Regional Parks Committee Chair, Susan Brice. “It will ultimately provide communities in Galiano, Mayne, Pender and Saturna islands with new trails that provide health and recreation benefits and increased safety.”
Phase 1 of this project, to be completed in 2013, is a high level, conceptual plan that will provide trail linkages for recreation, transportation and tourism opportunities. Precise routing and feasibility will be addressed in Phase 2, which will begin in 2014.
Community meetings will be held in the southern Gulf Islands this summer:
July 20, 10am-12pm July 27, 11am-4pm
Community Hall Farmers Market
July 28, 11am-4pm August 3, 1:15-3pm
South Community Hall Community Hall
“We look forward to seeing you at the meeting to learn about this exciting initiative and become part of the process to improve the economy of our island communities,” said Southern Gulf Island's Electoral Area Director, Dave Howe. “Please come out and participate with your ideas about networks of trails, links to amenities and transportation alternatives.”
Experience the Gulf Islands is an initiative of the Southern Gulf Islands Economic Development Commission which aims to build amenities for island residents and draw specialized tourism visitors to the islands. This conceptual trail plan is a key component of this initiative.
