Experience the Gulf Islands Information Meeting

May 10, 2013

Victoria, BC- Media are invited to the Experience the Gulf Islands information meeting on May 15, 2013 at the Mary Winspear Centre. The meeting will introduce Experience the Gulf Islands (ETGI), an initiative of the Southern Gulf Islands Economic Development Commission. It will feature a key building block of the initiative: development of a Southern Gulf Islands Cycling & Pedestrian Trail Plan.

The purpose of this daylong gathering of stakeholders is to:

  • inform participants about Experience the Gulf Islands (ETGI) and its status;
  • hear from agencies/organizations that have accomplished similar initiatives and that could link to the ETGI initiative;
  • build awareness of the opportunities for community and economic development that a trail network could support;
  • build support for ETGI from stakeholders on each of the southern Gulf Islands and from the various agencies/organizations; and
  • conduct a workshop with ETGI island teams to discuss the project goals, processes to be used to determine proposed trails, provide assistance to move the project forward and ensure everyone is working toward a common goal within a regional context.
