Mar 17, 2011

Victoria, BC – A record 5.2 million visits to regional parks and trails was reached in 2010, establishing a new benchmark for annual visitation in the Capital Regional District.

“Our regional parks and trails provide residents and visitors with a healthy opportunity to engage in a variety of outdoor recreational activities,” said CRD Regional Parks Committee Chair Christopher Causton. “These statistics demonstrate the popularity of our parks system. We expect the number of visits to continually increase as our population grows, we acquire new parkland and develop our park infrastructure.”

The most frequently visited trail is the Galloping Goose, with 1.6 million visits, and the most popular park Elk/Beaver Lake, with just over 1 million annual visits.
