Victoria, BC ‑ For the 8th consecutive year, the Capital Regional District has received recognition for its workplace safety programming. This year, the CRD has received four (4) awards for safety initiatives, including the prestigious national award for Best Safety Week Program in Canada. This year’s awards include:
- Best Overall – National NAOSH Week Competition (Canadian Overall Winner)
- Best Overall – NAOSH Week – BC/Yukon Region
- Regional Government - NAOSH Week – BC/Yukon Region (Category Award)
- CSSE Achievement Recognition Award
With these awards, the CRD continues to be recognized as a leader in occupational health and safety in the workplace.
Since 2003, the CRD has received a total of nineteen (19) awards and two (2) honourable mentions for safety programming. “At the CRD, we take safety at the workplace very seriously,” said CRD Chief Administrative Officer Kelly Daniels. “We are proud of the knowledge that our staff can come to work in a highly safe work environment, where safety is everyone’s business. We are very honoured with the recognition that we have received for our safety programs and initiatives, and it is because of the dedication of our staff to safety in the workplace that we have received this recognition.”
Previous CRD awards for workplace safety include: NAOSH Week Award – Best in Local Government (2003, 2007, 2008, 2009); NAOSH Week Award - Best Overall Program in Canada (2006); NAOSH Week Award - Best Overall Program in British Columbia (2006); NAOSH Week Award - Best in General Industry (2006); NAOSH Week Award - Best Presentation of NAOSH Week Theme (2006); NAOSH Week Award – Most Innovative Program in Canada (2009); NAOSH Week Award – Most Innovative Program in British Columbia (2009); CSSE BC Achievement Recognition Award (2005, 2007, 2009); CSSE BC honourable mention award - Best Training/ Orientation Program for Young and New Workers (2005); CSSE BC award for Best Safety Committee (2004). In addition, in 2005 the CRD received provincial recognition from WorkSafe BC for its young worker safety training initiatives.
About NAOSH: North American Occupational Safety & Health (NAOSH) is an international safety initiative administered each year in Canada through the WorkSafeBC and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE). The program aims to raise safety awareness, and to reduce injuries and illness in the workplace, at home and in the community.
