Jul 15, 2010

Victoria, BC The Capital Regional District (CRD), in partnership with Windsor Plywood and BC Hydro, is hosting a community event as part of its ongoing efforts focused on Sustainable Living. Community members and media are invited to drop by Windsor Plywood to learn about ways to reduce home energy consumption and pick up a Sustainable U clothesline kit.

The event will take place on Monday, July 19 from 3 – 5 pm at Windsor Plywood in Langford. BC Hydro representatives will be on-site with information on reducing electricity consumption and on Power Smart incentives and rebates. Learn how to build your own clothesline using eco-friendly products and enter to win energy efficiency products or a two-hour home energy consultation.

CRD’s Sustainable U aims to educate its audience on different elements of sustainable living through social media—this summer focusing on energy use in the laundry room. Geoff Young, CRD Board Chair, commented, “Through campaigns like Sustainable Laundry 101, we are making it easy for residents to save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

“Education is key to conservation and it’s important for residentsof the Capital Regional Districtto have access to the tools and information they need to conserve," said Lisa Coltart, executive director of Power Smart and Customer Care, BC Hydro."We are working to meet 66% of our new electricity needs through conservation by 2020 and initiatives like Sustainable U allow British Columbians to personally contribute to that target.”

“At Windsor Plywood we are continuing to build our line of eco-friendly products and I am thrilled to be part of this exciting partnership with the Capital Regional District and BC Hydro. Being a local business owner, this opportunity allows me to show my appreciation and support for the growing number of green initiatives offered in our community,” said Michael Hanson, Windsor Plywood Owner.
