Victoria, BC – Join CRD Regional Parks and Team Trail Mix of Leadership Victoria to celebrate Trail Day on Saturday, May 8 on the Galloping Goose at the Selkirk Trestle. Drop by anytime between 10am and 3pm to meet the new trail ambassadors, take a pledge to be a Friend of the Trails and receive great prizes!
CRD Regional Parks and Team Trail Mix have jointly developed a volunteer trail ambassador role for the Galloping Goose, Lochside and future E&N Rail Trail regional trails as part of a Community Action Project.
“The Trail Ambassador program is a volunteer opportunity to build awareness of the importance of the regional trails within our community,” said Brad Fraser of Team Trail Mix.
The goal for the first year is to have three separate events in which volunteer ambassadors will engage trail users. Trail Day is the inaugural event! Participate in face painting, crafts for kids, bike safety check instruction, flat tire repair clinics, Taoist Tai Chi demonstrations, fitness stretching techniques and senior’s recreational therapy activities.
“Volunteer ambassadors will be on the regional trails providing friendly advice and information and promoting good trail users behaviour,” said Janette Loveys, acting CRD General Manager of Parks and Community Services.
Team Trail Mix is one of the 2010 cohorts of Leadership Victoria, a voluntary organization committed to developing outstanding community leaders. CRD Regional Parks protects and manages more than 11,500 hectares of accessible natural areas in 30 regional parks and three regional trails on southern Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands.
Trail Day’s presenting sponsor is Fairway Markets.
