Victoria, BC – The Capital Regional District (CRD) has partnered with Visible Strategies to launch a program called See-It, which will provide information on Regional Monitoring indicators. The program is being launched in conjunction with the CRD’s new 2009-2011 strategic priorities to create a more user friendly, visually engaging format. The launch date is timed to coincide with related Earth Week activities.
With the launch of the See-It program the CRD can now clearly display its targets and plans for the future and determine their accuracy and effectiveness, driving action towards social, economic and environmental goals.
The Program is designed to enable the CRD, its member municipalities and its provincial partners to assess whether the RGS and its related implementation actions are having the desired effect, and to provide timely information for the five year review and update of the RGS to the Regional Sustainability Strategy.
The monitoring report focuses on three key questions:
- Are we doing what we said we would do?
- Are we moving towards achieving our targets and goals?
- Are we improving regional quality of life and sustainability?
A monitoring program is required by the Local Government Act; the successful implementation of the RGS will depend on knowing how the implementation initiatives are working. By evaluating progress, the CRD can respond to opportunities and challenges by adapting the RGS and its implementation initiatives to best suit the reality of on-the-ground effects.
