Trim the Tree, then Chip the Tree: Chipping Locations for Christmas Trees

Jan 06, 2010

Victoria, BC – The Capital Regional District would like to remind residents that Christmas trees are easily recycled at one of many drop off locations in the region. Operated by not-for-profit organizations, this recycling initiative saves valuable landfill space and is an annual fundraiser for many community organizations.

Residents should remove all screws, nails, lights and ornaments from trees before recycling. These items can be potentially hazardous if passed through chipping equipment. Groups often ask for a nominal fee or donation when collecting trees. Once collected, trees are chipped and used as compost for gardens and plants.

Tree chipping locations and community groups offering these services are listed in the attached PDF. For more information on recycling after the holiday season, and for recycling resolution ideas visit here or call the CRD Hotline at 250.360.3030.
