Victoria, BC –The 2009 EcoStar Awards are recognizing the need for the next generation to step up in contributing to environmental sustainability, by adding a brand new category titled ‘Youth Achievement (Individual).’ The Youth Achievement (Individual) Award, sponsored by Coast Capital Savings, celebrates a youth who has contributed to environmental leadership, emerging initiative and vision within our region.
“I’m happy to see the youth of our region being recognized in such a significant way,” said Geoff Young, CRD Board Chair. “This award will help green practices become the norm for our region’s future.”
The 2009 EcoStar Youth Achievement (Individual) winner will receive an EcoStar award and a bursary of one thousand dollars generously donated by Coast Capital Savings. To be eligible, the nominee must have been aged 18 or younger on December 31, 2008.
The CRD’s EcoStar Community Environmental Awards recognize outstanding achievements and contributions by local businesses, groups and individuals working to enhance our environment. Residents and business owners of the Capital Region may nominate environmentally friendly organizations, companies, schools or individuals in one of the nine categories.
Information can be found and nominations can be completed online until February 27, 2009 at 4:30pm. For those without internet access, a paper nomination form is available at 625 Fisgard Street, Victoria.
