Victoria, BC - The Capital Regional District (CRD) and the Salt Spring Island Parks and Recreation Commission ( SSIPARC) today announced the appointment of Kees Ruurs as the Manager of Parks and Recreation for Salt Spring Island. Ruurs’ appointment is effective September 8, 2008.
SSIPARC Vice Chair Rob Wiltzen stated, “Kees Ruurs has extensive experience in the parks and recreation field and I believe he will provide the management and leadership the Commission is looking for.”
“The hiring of Kees Ruurs comes at an ideal time for both the Commission and Salt Spring Island with the community survey and master plan update on the horizon,” says CRD Electoral Area Director Gary Holman. “Ruurs has extensive experience with community participation processes which will be most valuable during this period.”
Ruurs leaves his current management position with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department to come to Salt Spring Island. He has more than 25 years of experience in the parks and recreation field that includes positions with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Alberta and Greater Vernon Parks and Recreation.
SSIPARC is responsible for the establishment, ongoing operation and maintenance of a variety of parks and recreation facilities on Salt Spring Island.
