Galiano Island Community Use Building Referendum

Ballot Question

On Saturday, November 19, 2011, qualified electors of the Galiano Island Community Use Building Service Area (includes Galiano, Retreat, Wise, Parker and Gossip Islands) within the Southern Gulf Islands Electoral Area voted on the following question:

Are you in favour of the Capital Regional District Board adopting both of the following bylaws:
  • Bylaw No. 3792), “Galiano Island Community Use Building Service Establishment Bylaw No. 2, 2011” authorizing the Capital Regional District to establish a service to provide a library, community and local government use building and to raise a maximum annual requisition of the greater of ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100,100.00) or $0.165 per ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00) of taxable land and improvements for the purpose of funding the capital and operating costs of the service.
  • Bylaw No. 3793, “Galiano Island Community Use Building Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 2, 2011” authorizing the Capital Regional District to borrow an amount not to exceed SEVEN HUNDRED THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($730,000.00) for the purpose of paying the net costs of planning, designing, constructing and equipping a new library, community and local government use building on Galiano Island.

On Saturday, July 16, 2011, qualified electors of the Fulford water service area, within the Salt Spring Island Electoral Area of the Capital Regional District (CRD), voted on the following question:

Are you in favour of the Capital Regional District Board adopting the following bylaw:
  • Bylaw No. 3758, “Fulford Water Service Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 1, 2011” authorizing the borrowing of up to $225,000 to complete capital improvements to the Fulford Water Service on Salt Spring Island.

Galiano Island Community Use Building Referendum

On Saturday, April 23, 2011, qualified electors of the Galiano Island community use building service area area (includes Galiano, Retreat, Wise, Parker and Gossip Islands) within the Southern Gulf Islands Electoral Area voted on the following question:

Are you in favour of the Capital Regional District Board adopting both of the following bylaws:
  • Bylaw No. 3737, "Galiano Island Community Use Building Service Establishment Bylaw No. 1, 2011" authorizing the Capital Regional District to raise a maximum annual requisition of the greater of $138,000 or $0.217 per One Thousand Dollars of taxable assessments for the purpose of funding the capital and operating costs of a community use building to house the Galiano Island community library.
  • Bylaw No. 3738, "Galiano Island Community Use Building Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 1, 2011" authorizing the Capital Regional District to borrow an amount not to exceed $1,066,300 for the purpose of paying the net costs of designing, constructing and equipping a new community use building on Galiano Island.

Highland and Fernwood Water Supply Upgrades Referendum

On Saturday, March 19, 2011, qualified electors of the Highland and Fernwood water service area within the Salt Spring Island Electoral Area, voted on the following question:

Are you in favour of the Capital Regional District Board adopting both of the following bylaws:
  • Bylaw No. 3573, "Highland and Fernwood Water Service Establishment Bylaw No.1, 2010" authorizing the Capital Regional District to raise a maximum annual requisition of the greater of $64,000 or $0.4508 per One Thousand Dollars of taxable assessments to create a service for the purpose of funding the capital costs to complete the construction of a new water treatment plant and water distribution system upgrade works for the combined area of the Highland and Fernwood Water Service.
  • Bylaw No. 3754, "Highland and Fernwood Water Service Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 1, 2010" to authorize the borrowing of up to $500,000 to pay the capital costs to complete the construction of a new water treatment plant and water distribution system upgrade works for the combined area of the Highland and Fernwood Water Service.
