Salt Spring Island Public Library

On December 5, 2009 qualified electors on Salt Spring Island Electoral Area voted on the following question:

Referendum Question

"Are you in favour of the Board of the Capital Regional District adopting both of the following Bylaws:

(a) Bylaw No. 3613, "Salt Spring Island Public Library Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 2, 2009" authorizing the Capital Regional District to borrow an amount not to exceed $2,750,000 for the purpose of paying the net costs of designing, constructing and equipping a new public library building on Salt Spring Island; and

(b) Bylaw No. 3612, "Salt Spring Island Public Library Service Area Establishment Bylaw No. 1, Amendment Bylaw No. 3, 2009" authorizing the Capital Regional District to raise a maximum annual requisition of the greater of $600,000 or $0.186 per One Thousand Dollars of taxable assessments for the purpose of funding the capital and operating costs of a new public library building and contributing to the cost of the library service on Salt Spring Island.

On March 21, 2009 qualified electors of the Fernwood water local service area on Salt Spring Island voted on the following question:

Referendum Question

"Are you in favour of the Capital Regional District Board adopting Bylaw No. 3581, "Fernwood Water Supply Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 1, 2008" to authorize the borrowing of up to $195,000 for participation in the construction of a new water treatment plant and for water distribution system upgrade works for the Fernwood Water Supply Local Service.

"Are you in favour of the Capital Regional District Board adopting Bylaw No. 3580, "Highland Water System Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 1, 2008" to authorize the borrowing of up to $559,000 for upgrading water treatment and water systems for the Highland Water System Local Service.
