Residential Rain Gardens 101

Rain Gardens are landscape features designed to capture, slow, clean and store stormwater runoff from hard surface areas such as roofs and driveways. They consist of sunken garden spaces where runoff can pond and infiltrate into deep constructed soils and then into the native soils below. This is an approach that can help manage our rainwater and adapt to the changing climate. By allowing rainwater to infiltrate through a rain garden rather than enter the stormwater system, we can reduce flooding in our neighbourhoods and protect aquatic habitat by reducing erosion and pollution in our creeks and streams.

This webinar will review the basics of designing and utilizing a rain garden for rainwater management in a residential setting and will review considerations including site and soil evaluation, sizing, best practices, plating selection, overflow and maintenance requirements. A few case studies will also be shared along with frequently asked questions. Attend our webinar and learn from Tayler Krawczyk a landscape garden professional and ecological landscape designer actively working in our region on small residential water management systems and raingardens.
