Applying to the CRD

Our hiring process follows four steps. Here's what to expect from us when you apply.

1: Create your profile

To apply for a job opportunity, you must first set up a profile on the CRD Jobs website. After that, you can upload your resume and apply for jobs. For more information, refer to our tip sheet:

Note: current employees already have a profile and can access internal opportunities using their CRD login. Click the "view internal jobs" menu link to get started.

2: Apply online

Browse current opportunities to see what we have to offer. When you find a role that interests you, click the "Apply now" button. You will be prompted to log into your profile and follow the steps to prepare an application.

After you apply, our system will send you an email letting you know we received your application. If you do not receive this email within 24 hours, please check your junk mail before contacting the Human Resources & Corporate Safety office at 250.360.3069.

3: Assessment

If you are selected to move forward in the hiring process, we will assess your knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies for the job. These assessments may vary depending on the job requirements. For example, you may be asked to participate in written assignments, presentations, and interviews. You may also be asked to submit documents. Before an offer is made, we may also request reference checks.

4: Offer

If you are the successful applicant, the hiring manager will reach out to you to confirm interest and next steps. We look forward to working with you!

Frequently Asked Questions

I am interested but I may need an accommodation. What should I do?

If you have a disability that requires an accommodation during any stage of our recruitment process, please let us know how we can assist you by contacting Human Resources.

I am not a Canadian citizen. Can I apply for work at the CRD?

Applicants seeking employment within the CRD must be eligible to legally work in Canada and be able to provide the supporting documentation indicating so.

Where will I be working if I am hired?

The CRD has employees in multiple worksites within the region, including Victoria (Fisgard location), Saanich Peninsula, View Royal, Langford, Sooke, Juan de Fuca Electoral Area, Salt Spring Island, and the Southern Gulf Islands. Please refer to the posted opportunity for specifics on the worksite location.

Do I have to submit a Criminal Record Check?

Some jobs at the CRD require a Criminal Record Check. The type of checks that we do are specific to roles in which the employee will work with vulnerable adults or children.

What are auxiliary positions?

Auxiliary positions are sometimes referred to as casual, temporary or term positions. Auxiliary positions can be full-time, part-time, or "as and when required." The posting will typically show the length of assignment and anticipated hours of work.

How do I browse current opportunities?

Click the "Our Jobs" menu at the top of each page to access jobs open to applications from members of the public.

If you are a current employee, click the "View Internal Jobs" menu link to log in with your CRD credentials and view internal opportunities.

I am not a current CRD employee, can I view internal jobs and apply?

No. Only current employees can view and apply for internal opportunities. If a position is not filled internally, we open the opportunity to the public and the posting will appear under the "Our Jobs" menu.

I think I am a CRD employee, but I have not worked for a few months. Can I apply for internal jobs?

If you are not sure about your status, please contact the Human Resources and Corporate Safety office at 250.360.3069 and ask us to confirm whether you are currently a CRD employee.

Do I have to apply for each job separately?

Yes. Each position is reviewed independent of one another. If you wish to apply for more than one position, please submit your resume and cover letter to each one separately.

I am unable to submit my application online, what should I do?

We strongly encourage all applicants to use our online application process. This allows us to track your application, communicate consistently via email, and reduce paper. If you require assistance with your application, please contact Human Resources and Corporate Safety by emailing Human Resources, providing the posting number and job title in the subject line.
