Crews will be working on parking lot and washroom improvements between December 2024 and May 2025.
Upgrades will be made to the parking lot and washrooms at East Sooke Regional Park - Aylard Farm through the winter months of 2024 and into spring 2025.
The parking lot expansion project is being undertaken in an effort, during peak visitation periods, to reduce park visitors parking along Becher Bay Road and to ensure that there is adequate emergency access for larger vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. The project will add 93 parking stalls in the current unpaved seasonal parking area, increasing the number of year-round parking stalls from 61 to 154, including six accessible parking stalls.
Work is expected to be contained to the parking lot and washroom areas and will be organized so the park and washroom facilities remain open to the public during this time. Construction hours will be Monday to Friday 7am–5pm. During this time nearby residents and park users can expect minor disruptions from construction traffic. A traffic management plan will be implemented to safely manage park and resident access on Becher Bay Road.
With nearly 250,000 visits to East Sooke Regional Park annually, the CRD is working to ensure the longevity and security of services and facilities through these types of upgrades. An environmental impact assessment, cultural and ecological monitoring and approvals are in place for these projects and measures will be taken to protect park values.
